Swagata (maiden name Mukherjee) is a recognized musical talent from Calcutta, West Bengal. She has performed extensively throughout India and in the US. She has an extensive repertoire that extends from the traditional classical (such as Kheyal) to light classicals such as Thumri, Kajri, Hori, Bhajan etc. to geets such as Nazrul-geets, Rabindra-sangeet and other modern songs in Hindi and Bengali. Her talent has won her many awards from several reputed organizations and committees. Recently she performed with the Living Legend, Manna Dey onstage at several locations across US (New Jersey, New York and California among others).

Born with a natural flair for music, she was introduced to classical music at a very tender age of 10. Over a long span of more than 20 years, she received extensive training under the tutelage of some very distinguished and well known performers. She learnt pure Hindustani classical (Kheyal) from Pandit Mohanlal Mishra (famous exponent of the Benaras gharana), Pandit Samarash Choudhury, (disciple of Pandit Ravishankar and a top grade artist with All India Radio and Doordarshan) and Sangit Achariya Pandit A.R. Banerjee (Dean of the Rabindra-Bharati University). Swagata also took specialized training from Bidushi Purnima Choudhury, an outstanding artist of the Beneras gharana in light classicals (Thungri, Kajri, Chaiti, etc.).

Swagata completed her Master of Arts in Music from the esteemed Rabindra-Bharati University in style, being placed at the top of her class which won her the Gold Medal.
